Anderson County leaders followed through on March 9 pledge to place county financial records online by launching a new website the last week of March containing the county budget, financial reports and check registers. The county placed the information online in less than three weeks without the need to hire any additional staff and at absolutely no cost to the taxpayer.
"We just exported the reports we are already keeping and posted it to the county website. Putting it online didn't cost a dime," said Anderson County Council Chairman Eddie Moore.
More than a dozen state and local officials, including five of seven Anderson County Council members, joined Policy Council President Ashley Landess, Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom and Senator Kevin Bryant at the Anderson Courthouse March 9 to commit to posting the county’s expense records online. Anderson County is the state’s first county to post a comprehensive record of expenses online.
The Anderson County website contains the past two county budgets, revenue and expense statements for the past 12 months and a comprehensive listing of all county employee credit card statements since July 2008.
